Consider how 'the dark emotions' can impact on your practice and how to respond. These include emotions such as guilt, shame, rejection, anger and resentment.
a) An enthusiastic enquiring interest in this fascinating area. b) It is possible although not essential that you will presently be attending an accredited counselling course at levels 2, 3 or 4.
What you will learn
• What exactly is meant by rejection, resentment, revenge and hatred? • What are the origins of these “Dark Emotions”? • How are they experienced / felt? • When are they justified? • What might be their likely outcomes? • How might a counsellor work with them?

Tutor presentation, case studies and group discussions/exercises.
How you will be assessed on this course
1. Describe what is meant by each of these “Dark Emotions”. 2. Identify some causes/origins of these “Dark Emotions”. 3. Recognise the impact of these “Dark Emotions” on relationships. 4. Identify some useful functions of these “Dark Emotions”. 5. Become more comfortable about discussing and dealing with these “Dark Emotions”.

There is no set work but students are encouraged to reflect upon their own experience and upon the course content.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor may ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. This paperwork is a requirement of the College’s Quality Improvement Programme.
