Understand the characteristics and causes of psychopathy, as well as better ways of detecting and treating it. Both non-criminal and criminal psychopaths will be examined and how their personality traits have made them who they are. The course will also look at controversies in psychopathy and ways in which being psychopathic may be beneficial.

A brief overview of psychopathy looking at the history, signs, symptoms, causes and diagnosis, including real-life case studies.
How you will learn on this course
Teaching methods will include tutor explanations, group work, the use of video and internet material where possible, handouts, and PowerPoint presentations.

How you will be assessed on this course
1.Identify some of the criminal and non-criminal behaviours of a psychopath
2.Describe ways psychopathy can be managed
3.State causes of psychopathy
4.Recognise ways of diagnosing the disorder
5.Discuss how psycopathy and criminality are connected.
