Course description

Are you considering a career in garden design or a keen amateur gardener who would like to learn about effective planting schemes or wish to re-design your garden? Try this Taster to see if you would like to enrol on the course in February.

Entry requirements

A keen interest in this field either for work, a change of career or for personal gain.

What you will learn

Students will learn about the key topics that will cover on horticulture and garden design courses in 2018-19. This course will also learn design principles, identifying plants, propagation methods and gardening for various reasons.

How you will learn on this course

Students will have the opportunity to learn about design principles, identifying plants, propagation methods and gardening for various reasons. Presentation, practical activity and Q&A will be key teaching and learning activities for this course.

How you will be assessed on this course


There will be interactive teaching and learning activities shared with students by the tutor including demonstrations, use of technology, Word Clouds, glossary of terms, quizzes, reflective diaries, observation, discussions, direct questioning, self-assessment, working in pairs or groups, working together to develop and challenge what you have learnt, finding out what you can do well and what you could do to improve.

Additional information

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
