Create beautiful modern or traditional designs for funerals. Make posies, crosses, hearts, tied arrangements, and cushions and discover how to personalise them. Flowers to be purchased weekly by students at a cost of £10-£25.
No entry requirements - beginners welcome. Learners with some experience will be shown more detailed designs.
What you will learn
Learners will cover: Posy, double ended arrangement, basket, open ring, heart, cross, pillow, sheaf. Learners will gain a basic knowledge of the principles of design and colour, recognise the different mechanics and use various techniques. Learners will learn how to identify a selection of plant materials and how to condition them. Health and Safety in the work place will be covered. Learners will be made aware of the range available within a commercial floristry environment.
How you will learn on this course
This is a practical class with hands-on experience. Each week the tutor will demonstrate what is required of the learners. Advice is given on the materials required and individual advice and guidance is given.
How you will be assessed on this course
There will be interactive teaching and learning activities shared with students by the tutor including demonstrations, use of technology, Word Clouds, glossary of terms, quizzes, reflective diaries, observation, discussions, direct questioning, self-assessment, working in pairs or groups, working together to develop and challenge what you have learnt, finding out what you can do well and what you could do to improve.

Students will need to buy flowers/ foliage each week.
What you need for your course
Learners provide their own materials for this course, e.g. flowers and foliage. Advice is given on purchasing these. The tutor will be able to provide oasis and wires at a small cost. The cost for each weekly assignment will amount to between £10 and £25.
What you need to bring to the first class
Notebook and pen. Learners will need to bring three types of flowers and two types of foliage to make a large posy. Please select three from the following to make a posy: 1. 10 stems roses. 2. 5 stems lilies. 3. 10 stems large carnations. 4. 1 bunch spray carnation. 5. 1 bunch chrysanthemum 6. other flower(s) of your choice. Please select two from the following: 1. Conifer. 2. Eucalyptus. 3. Ruscus. 4. Leather leaf. 5. other foliage(s) of your choice.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
