Course description

To inspire those wishing to learn new skills, enjoy flower arranging or for those wanting to get a taste of floristry. A perfect introduction to learning basic skills and a range of floral designs. You will learning how to select suitable flowers for each arrangement and how to use floristry equipment. Flowers to be purchased weekly by students at a cost of £10-20.

You will need to supply all flowers and materials.

What you will learn

This course will cover different floral designs, these include gift wrapping flowers in bouquets, single stem and cone wrap, posy arrangement, tear drop funeral spray, gift basket, hand-tied bouquet.

How you will learn on this course

You will have a demonstration at the beginning of each class and then you will have practical experience of making the design yourself.

How you will be assessed on this course

 

There will be interactive teaching and learning activities shared with students by the tutor including demonstrations, use of technology, Word Clouds, glossary of terms, quizzes, reflective diaries, observation, discussions, direct questioning, self-assessment, working in pairs or groups, working together to develop and challenge what you have learnt, finding out what you can do well and what you could do to improve.

What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time

Some research on different designs and equipment you are required to bring to class.

What you need for your course

All floral items including flowers, foliage’s and sundries. Sundries are available from Hobbycraft, e-bay, Amazon, some florists and online florist wholesalers.

What you need to bring to the first class

Scissors, Cellophane (minimum2-3 metres), flowers to the value of £15-£20 including foliage, florist poly ribbon, stapler and staples, sellotape, 2-3 sheets of tissue paper.

Additional information

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
