For those who need to learn Word and Excel either for work or studies. The course will take you through the elementary functions of both packages so that you are able to use them effectively.
Access to a computer with Word and Excel is desirable, to practise and keep learning outside of the classroom.
What you will learn
The course will cover the basics of Word and Excel, typing information into text-based documents and spreadsheets to produce different types of documents. We will look at saving documents using good file management procedures, printing them and then editing previously created files. The ribbons in both programs will be examined and controls used to alter documents for font, font size, text colour and other formatting options.

Edit a document for: a. Font. b. Size. c. Colour d. Spacing. 6. Print documents. 7. Be able to cut, copy and paste text within a document. 8. Be able to add graphics to a Word document. 9. Open Excel. 10. Be able to: a. Create a new, blank work book. b. Create a workbook using a template. c. Insert letter data into a spreadsheet. d. Insert number data into a spreadsheet. 11. Edit a spreadsheet for: a. Letter and number errors. b. Font. c. Size. 12. Apply borders to cells. 13. Apply shading to cells. 14. Insert automatic addition (SUM) formulae 15. Make use of BODMAS to create. a. Division formulae. b. Multiplication formulae. c. Addition formulae. d. Subtraction formulae. e. Use multiple arithmetic operators within a formula 16. Be able to produce basic charts and graphs.

Homework tasks will be set to practise knowledge and skills gained in class. Using the VLE to access resources and practise exercises will be encouraged.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
