Course description

A two week introduction into the requirements of the ECDL Level one course starting on 3 October 2018. All learners who wish to attend the ECDL course must successfully complete this two-week course in order to progress on. The fee for this course will be deducted from the enrolment fee for ECDL Level One.

What you need to join the class

a) guidance needed: All students must take an initial assessment prior to starting this course. b) entry requirements: Students enrolling on this course will be expected to sit an English and Maths Initial Assessment prior to being accepted onto the course and successfully complete the Introduction to ECDL. You can book your Initial Assessment online at www.tlcbexley.ac.uk. It is quick, simple and a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you. Alternatively you can call 020 3045 5176, quoting the course you are interested in and the course code, or visit one of our centres. Initial Assessment is conducted to assess that you have the correct level of English and Maths necessary for the course and where required additional support can be put in place to help you succeed. If you are unsuccessful in your Initial Assessment, guidance will be given to you regarding a more suitable course.

What the course will cover

Week one will cover basic Word Processing and there will be an IT Skills Assessment which will be marked by the tutor to assess IT levels and inform progression. Week two will cover some basic Excel and students will be informed regarding their progression and will be able to enrol onto the next course during the session. Students will need to do a homework exercise outside of the classroom which will form part of their assessment.

Teaching and learning activities

Demonstration, discussion and explanation from the tutor, group interaction with tutor and peers. Learners will receive instruction sheets, handouts, practice exercises and one-to-one tuition. Students will need to do a homework exercise outside of the classroom which will form part of their assessment.

What you will be able to do by the end of the course (Course objectives)

If successful, progress onto ECDL Level One.

Examination or qualification (if applicable) including costs. The course fee usually includes examination costs: registration with the exam board, certification and administration fees. If the fees are not included, the brochure will tell you this.

It is essential that all students work outside of the class time in order to successfully complete this course.

Additional information - General

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor may ask you to complete a Student Learning Record (SLR) and agree your personal learning goals. This paperwork is a requirement of the College’s Quality Improvement Programme.
