Pilates aims to strengthen the body in a balanced way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. Start your day the Pilates way.
A sense of wellness: students should be fit and well. If you have any medical issues, please seek advice from your GP before enrolling on this course. The tutor may ask you to seek medical clearance from your GP before you can join the class. All students will need to complete a declaration of health at the start of the course to confirm they are fit to take part in this class.
What you will learn
This course is a floor/mat based class and will cover how to improve posture, basic movements to maintain and improve mobility, strength and flexibility, to improve core strength, how to contract the abdominal/pelvic floor muscles, how to isolate muscles and learn how Pilates relates to functional movements to become more aware of how you move and use your body in day.
How you will learn on this course
There will be practical demonstrations by the tutor, discussion, self-assessment from how you feel from the start to the end of the class, pair work - working together to achieve improvements in movements, posture and body awareness but mainly having a go at movements - learning, retaining what you have learnt and then challenging what you have learnt.
How you will be assessed on this course
There will be interactive teaching and learning activities shared with students by the tutor including demonstrations, use of technology, Word Clouds, quizzes, reflective diaries, observation, discussions, direct questioning, self-assessment, working in pairs or groups, working together to develop and challenge what you have learnt, finding out what you can do well and what you could do to improve.

Become more aware of your posture in day to day life and any additional movements done outside of class time will be beneficial.
What you need for your course
What you need to bring to the first class
This is a mat based class performed on the floor. Blocks and mats are provided although some students bring their own. Please ensure you are hydrated, bring water, a towel or soft cushion and wear layers of loose clothing.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
