Need a class that caters for specific health issues or you cannot get down on to the mat to exercise? Keep your mobility and range of movement with this chairbased exercise. Improve your fitness and wellbeing in the company of friends.
This is a special beginner’s rehabilitation class for anyone with any condition/illness that they feel prevents them from joining a mainstream keep fit class. It is also appropriate for anyone recovering from an illness/operation who is nervous and not confident about starting exercise again and feel they need special help and encouragement.
You will be asked to complete a declaration of health form at the first lesson. Students are advised to speak to their doctor if they have a health problem and may be required to produce a letter to say that they are fit to exercise.
What you will learn
The course will cover a series of exercises that will help mobility, flexibility, strength and endurance, with special reference to the correct breathing techniques that will improve circulation and lung function. At the end of each session there will be a relaxation period that will help lower blood pressure and combat stress. All the exercises will help promote confidence and well being.
How you will learn on this course
Demonstrate improvements in:
• posture and body awareness;
• general movement e.g. able to get out of the chair easier;
• strength generally;
• general fitness levels e.g. walking up stairs
• being able to walk for longer periods;
• general well-being.
How you will be assessed on this course
There will be interactive teaching and learning activities shared with students by the tutor including demonstrations, use of technology, Word Clouds, quizzes, reflective diaries, observation, discussions, direct questioning, self-assessment, working in pairs or groups, working together to develop and challenge what you have learnt, finding out what you can do well and what you could do to improve.

What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time
It is important to try and keep moving and do some regular exercise if you can at home or out and about.
What you need for your course
Wear layers of loose clothing, a sweatshirt you can take off, t-shirt, joggers, suitable trainers/supportive footwear, a towel and a drink.

Additional information - General
At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete a Student Learning Record (SLR) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and SLR.
