Course description

With the skills acquired from our Beginners' Beadcraft course, continue your learning by designing and creating more intricate items using familiar beading materials from leather cord, wire chain and more. Enhance your skills to create several finished pieces using a variety of beads and materials. Course fee includes basic findings and beads. Learners will need to purchase their own findings and beads as they progress.

What you will learn

Develop your understand and use the fundamental tools and materials required when making an item of jewellery. At the end of the each session you will be able to make an item of jewellery (earrings, bracelet or an necklace). You will be given projects, which will help you develop on your design skills independently. Which will include a necklace, earrings, bangle and ring. Students are also encouraged to work on their own projects if desired.

How you will learn on this course

Demonstrations will be provided alongside step-by-step hands-outs. Question and answer with group and one-to-one instruction. Samples of work will be on display.

How you will be assessed on this course

1. Be able to design and plan Jewellery from a brief. 2. Be able to work out materials quantities needed to construct designed pieces. 3. Be able to construct pieces from paper designs. 4. Make jewellery pieces according to skill and ability.

What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time

No homework is required outside of the lesson, but it is encouraged to practice at home to improve on skills learnt, during class.

What you need for your course

A list of books will be supplied at the first lesson and a list of suppliers.

What you need to bring to the first class

Notepad and pen/pencil, to record technical notes taken in class, an A4 folder to file hand-outs received each week. You will be able to borrow a set of pliers, but you will be encouraged to purchase your own for further development. PLEASE NOTE STUDENTS WILL BE CHARGED FOR MATERIALS USED, but will be advised where to obtain materials should they wish to purchase their own. Cost of materials initially is modest (£1.50 - £3 depending on the project).

Additional information

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
