Course description

Unfinished sewing projects? Started but don’t know how to finish, it doesn’t fit or has just gone wrong, can it be salvaged? If you need sewing advice and guidance then bring your UFOs and we’ll try and finish and fix them.

Entry requirements

Basic sewing machine skills. Sewing projects you need help with.

What you will learn

Individual sewing guidance and support. How to take accurate measurements and apply to your project. Finishing and altering techniques.

How you will learn on this course

Students will have the opportunity to observe and listen to demonstrations, supported by clear hand-outs and PowerPoint presentations. The tutor will offer one to one tuition or small group demonstration. Students will have the chance to view hand-outs and additional sewing information on the college website specific to sewing and clothes making.

How you will be assessed on this course

Identify how to correct or finish a sewing project. Apply finishing techniques. Complete an unfinished project.

Qualification and exam information (only for courses leading to a qualification)

Not applicable.

What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time

None but students can practise sewing on their machine at home.

What you need for your course

Students will need to bring their own garments to alter and purchase zips, threads and trims if required.

What you need to bring to the first class

Pen, thread, pins, scissors, tape measure, tailors chalk, unfinished sewing projects, machines are provided but you are welcome to bring your own.

Additional information

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
