Learn to play the guitar in a fun and enjoyable environment. The course is aimed at absolute beginners and players with a little knowledge. It will include playing chord progressions, learning a variety of different songs in different styles, rhythm playing, knowledge of the fretboard and some basic music theory and notation.
Bring enthusiasm! Also bring a notebook, pen/pencil and of course a guitar!
What you will learn
The course will cover the playing of chord progressions, rhythm playing, knowledge of the fretboard and some use of basic music theory and notation. By the end of the course, you should be able to play a variety of simple pop/folk repertoire and have a basic understanding of the instrument.
How you will learn on this course
The emphasis will be very much on the practical, based mainly on playing and demonstration. Teaching will be both group and individual centred. Listening activities will be to the fore too.
How you will be assessed on this course
By the end of the course you will be able to: 1. Play a variety of different open chords. 2. You will also be able to read chord charts and tab. 3. You will be able to play a variety of different songs in different genres as well as being able to play rhythms in different key signatures. 4. You will also be able to play songs with a simple finger picking pattern.

What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time
Students are expected to practice the tasks between classes. The objectives can only be attained through this extra work.

None, although the tutor may recommend some books and websites throughout the course.

Writing materials and a guitar are all that is required for the course (bring enthusiasm too!).

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
