Discover the beauty of wood and learn to carve a low-relief flower in lime wood, progressing onto a more complex carving in-the-round of a stylized figure, and then use two contrasting timbers, glued together to create a 2-tone, sliding penguin. Students can also design their own projects to work on.

1. Developed carving skills. 2. Gouge sharpening skills. 3. Maquette-making. 4. Identification of timbers used for carving. 5. Produce one or more carvings. 6. Add a finish to a carving using oil/wax. 7. Identify styles of carving and woodcarvers through history.

What you need to bring to the first class
Pencil. Timber will be supplied by the tutor at a small cost. All tools are supplied. Please do not buy a cheap set of carving tools, these are a waste of money.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
