Experienced woodcarvers will learn how to make a maquette, transfer design onto timber and carve a low-relief.
An interest in learning how to tackle a low-relief carving.
What you will learn
Maquette-making in plasticine from a photograph, looking at different levels, carving low-relief techniques.
How you will learn on this course
One-to-one tuition, demonstrations, question and answer sessions.
How you will be assessed on this course
1. Develop carving skills. 2. Gouge sharpening skills. 3. Maquette-making. 4. Identification of timbers used for carving. 5. Produce one or more carvings. 6. Add a finish to a carving using oil/wax.

What you need to bring to the first class
Pencil. Timber will be supplied by the tutor at a small cost. All tools are supplied. Please do not buy a cheap set of carving tools, these are a waste of money.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
