If you have some basic pattern cutting skills or have completed the introduction to pattern cutting course and want to develop these skills, move onto creating a bodice block to create your own tops and blouses.
Confident clothes making skills, basic pattern cutting skills and a machine at home to sew your toiles.
Comfortable with maths, metric measurements, using a ruler and following written technical instructions.
What you will learn
Students will be instructed how to take accurate body measurements and follow technical instructions to draft a basic bodice block. Pattern cutting techniques will be demonstrated and developed to enable the students to develop a top or blouse design adding collars and facings.
How you will learn on this course
Students will have the opportunity to observe and listen to demonstrations on pattern cutting techniques, supported by clear handouts and PowerPoint presentations. The tutor will offer group demonstration and one to one tuition. Students will have the chance to view handouts and additional information on the college website specific to clothes making.
How you will be assessed on this course
-Take accurate body measurements.
-Confidently handle pattern-cutting equipment.
-Draft a basic bodice block.
-Apply dart manipulation.
-Apply slash and spread technique.
-Develop a 2D design into a top or blouse
-Add seam allowances.
-Add a collar

What you need for your course
As below. Pattern paper is provided at a small charge 50p p/m. Books recommended are: Designing Patterns- Hilary Campbell, Metric Pattern Cutting- Winifred Aldrich.
What you need to bring to the first class
Pen, A4 file for handouts, tape measure, paper scissors, mechanical pencil, rubber, calculator (or your phone) pattern master/maker (www.fredaldous.co.uk or amazon approx. £10 or available to buy from tutor)

Pattern cutting level 2
At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals.
All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency.
All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
