Get to know London through illustrated talks alternating with visits or walks in London, giving students an opportunity to learn about and visit the capital city, gaining knowledge of its history and traditions and to identify different aspects of life. £2.50 additional costs have been added to the fee.
No prior knowledge required. Not suitable for the less mobile.
What you will learn
Lectures on: River Thames, Pimlico and Belgravia, Mayfair, Kensington, Legal London, Literary London, Mayoralty, Chelsea. Visits to include to include: National Gallery, Ragged School, The Queens Diamond Jubilee Gallery in Westminster Abbey, Cinema Museum if open. Walks: East End, Royal Mistresses, Cannon Street to Tower of London, Around Holborn and Literary London.
How you will learn on this course
By lectures in the classroom, illustrated with images and alternating with a guided walk in the Capital or visit to a gallery or place of interest.
How you will be assessed on this course
There will be interactive teaching and learning activities shared with students by the tutor including demonstrations, use of technology, Word Clouds, glossary of terms, quizzes, reflective diaries, observation, discussions, direct questioning, self-assessment, working in pairs or groups, working together to develop and challenge what you have learnt, finding out what you can do well and what you could do to improve.

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor may ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. This paperwork is a requirement of the College’s Quality Improvement Programme.
