Course description

Develop and improve your conversation skills on this lively course. A variety of topics will be covered; these include speaking about yourself and your family, ordering drinks and snacks, going shopping, asking for and following directions. Suitable for students who have been learning Spanish for one year. CL

What you need to join the class

a) Guidance needed: None required. b) Entry requirements: Students need to have completed at least one year of Spanish.

What the course will cover

Students will develop and improve their conversation skills in a variety of topics, which have been covered on their Spanish beginners course, so that they can deal with a variety of situations encountered while in a Spanish-speaking country. Topics will include: speaking about yourself and your family, ordering drinks and snacks, going shopping, asking for and following directions.

Teaching and learning activities

Through various speaking activities including, role-play, conversation games, group work, pair work, discussions, and flashcards.

What you will be able to do by the end of the course (Course objectives)

1. Introduce yourself. 2. Say where you come from. 3. Give personal information about yourself. 4. Booking a room/ in the hotel. 5. At the campsite/descriptions. 6. Buying a train/bus ticket. 7. To go and to take: taxi, Bus, Metro. 8. Getting about in the town. 9. At the airport/Sightseen. 10. Order food and drink in a bar. 11. Book a table/pay the bill. 12. Shopping for food. 13. Going to the Chemist/Bank/Post office. 14. Ask for directions. 15. Follow directions.

Examination or qualification (if applicable) including costs. The course fee usually includes examination costs: registration with the exam board, certification and administration fees. If the fees are not included, the brochure will tell you this.

Work expected outside lesson time (e.g. homework, assignments, etc.)

Students should expect up to one hour’s study each week.

What you need to bring to the first class

A4 folder, A4 paper and pen.

Books, materials and equipment you need for the course (including additional costs, specialist stockists, etc.) Note: your tutor may recommend additional items during the course.

A Spanish-English dictionary.

Additional information - General

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete a Student Learning Record (SLR) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and SLR.
