A lively interactive course where you will learn some basis signs, including fingerspelling, greetings and deaf awareness. Improve your signing skills and confidence in using simple, everyday sign language. Introductory course for the BSL Level 1 Award.
What you will learn
The Signature unit BSL 101 will be followed.
How you will learn on this course
The course will follow the Signature syllabus and you will work in pairs, group work, dialogue, hand outs. Students are encouraged to share and support each other.
How you will be assessed on this course
1. Greet people using British Sign Language. 2. Fingerspell your name & names for people and places. 3. Understand and recognise how to ask for clarification & simple questions. 4. Describe people, clothes, hair, etc. 5. Use basic numbers for people, time, money, dates, etc. 6. Describe different weather and ask about weather. 7. Describe and understand about different ways of transport. 8. Use BSL to ask & give directions to different place inside and outside of building. 9. Demonstrate and use various facial expression.

There will not be any extra work in relation to this course outside lesson time.

Your tutor can recommend additional learning tools during the course, for example literature relating to the history of British Sign Language, books supporting the course objectives.

Ring Binder, Notepaper and Pen.
What you can do next
Following this course, students can enrol on BSL Level 1.
At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
