Course description

This course is conducted purely in German. You will participate in lively discussions on everyday issues, such as culture, politics and national and international current affairs, using authentic materials from newspapers and the Internet. Suitable for students who have studied German for four years.

Entry requirements

1. New students will need authorisation by the course tutor with regards to their language ability before joining. 2. Students should have the ability to express themselves in German with ease and take part in discussions.

What you will learn

There will be a variety of topics covered, based on material chosen from a range of magazines, newspapers and the Internet which reflect key issues happening in German speaking countries and the world. We will also touch on German cultural affairs.

How you will learn on this course

Reading, listening,writing,. Class/group/pair discussions held in German, encouraging individual participation

How you will be assessed on this course

1. Display progress in speaking fluency. 2. Play a part in discussions on new topics. 3. Advance your ability expressing opinions/ideas. 4. Improve skills extracting information from an unknown text. 5. Expand your debating skills. 6. Consolidate your reading skills by folowing longer texts with complex terminology. 7. Consolidate your listening comprehension by following a recording. 8. Consolidate your writing skills by noting down answers/preparing homework. 9. Discover new traditions about the German way of life. 10. Acquire an increased knowledge of current German cultural background issues. 11. Revision of some grammar points.
