1 - Course description 

You will learn how to speak, listen, read and write at Entry 1 Level.

All students must attend an English assessment session prior to starting a course.

 3 - What you will learn 

Spelling, writing in sentences and reading for everyday tasks.

 4 - How you will learn on this course 

There will be a variety of different activities, including: group work, discussions, some practical activities and some tutor based information/explanation.

1.Speak clearly to others.

2.Listen to others.

3.Respond clearly to others.

5.Answer questions.

6.Read everyday signs and symbols.

7.Read everyday words.

8.Read, listen and follow instructions.

9.Read a sentence.

10.Identify and write vowels and consonants.

11.Identify capital letters and full stops in sentences.

12.Use capital letters to begin sentences.

13.Use capital letters for the names of people and places.

14.Use full stops to end sentences.

15.Write name.

16.Write address.

17.Write letters of the alphabet in uppercase.

18.Write letters of the alphabet in lowercase.

19.Write a simple sentence.

20.Write a simple sentence using a capital letter and a full stop.

21.Write the numbers 1-10.

22.Write the days of the week.

 6 - Qualification and exam information (only for courses leading to a qualification) 

City & Guilds Functional Skills English at Entry Level 1 will be completed during class time. No fee.

 7 - What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time 

A minimum of 1 and ½ hour of weekly homework and assignments set by the tutor. This is essential if learners want to be successful.

 8 - What you need for your course 

You may like to bring your own dictionary.

 What you need to bring to the first class 

A4 lined paper, pen, pencil and a ruler.

 10 - What you can do next 

You may move up to Entry Level 2 if recommended by the course tutor.

 Additional Information

 Paperwork to help your learning

 At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course.  Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals.

 All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency, who expect that learners who enrol on a course leading to a qualification will take that qualification at the College.

 All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
