What you will learn

1.Spelling. 2.Joining simple sentences together. 3.Reading for everyday tasks.

How you will learn on this course

There will be a variety of different activities, including: group work, discussions, some practical activities and some tutor based information/explanation.

How you will be assessed on this course

1.Speak clearly to others in a discussion. 2.Listen to others in a discussion. 3.Listen to a text being read and reply. 4.Express feelings and opinions. 5.Ask direct questions. 6.Answer questions. 7.Use images to find information. 8.Read, listen to and follow instructions. 9.Read a short text. 10.Identify the main points of a short text. 11.Use alphabetical order to find information. 12.Use capital letters to begin sentences. 13.Use capital letters for the names of people and places. 14.Use full stops and question marks to end sentences. 15.Write simple sentences using capital letters, full stops and question marks. 16.Add describing words to your sentences. 17.Join simple sentences together. 18.Begin and end a note to a friend. 19.Read and use words to show the order of instructions (first, next, then, after). 20.Spell personal words correctly on forms. Write the numbers 1-20. Write the months of the year.

Qualification and exam information (only for courses leading to a qualification)

City & Guilds Functional Skills English at Entry Level 2 will be completed during class time. No fee.

What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time

A minimum of 1 and ½ hour of weekly homework and assignments set by the tutor. This is essential if learners want to be successful.

A4 lined paper, pen, pencil and a folder.

You may move up to Entry Level 3 if recommended by the course tutor.

Additional information

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency, who expect that learners who enrol on a course leading to a qualification will take that qualification at the College. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
