You will develop skills to plan and organise your own writing in a format and structure to suit the purpose.

Vocabulary, style, how to present information and use paragraphs where appropriate.
How you will learn on this course
There will be a variety of different activities, including: group work, discussions, some practical activities and some tutor based information/explanation. Participants will be given a variety of different hand-outs to summarise the issues/activities covered during the session.
How you will be assessed on this course
1.Outline a plan for own writing. 2.Indicating key points. 3.Use layout and structure. 4.Write ideas and opinions. 5.Judge how much to write and level of detail to include. 6.Present information in a logical sequence. 7.Use paragraphs where suitable. 8.Use style and vocabulary suitable for purpose and audience. 9.Plan and draft a letter of application for a job. OR 9.Plan and draft an leaflet relevant to work or study.

This writing unit at Level 1 will be completed during lesson time. No Fee
What you will be expected to do outside your lesson time
A minimum of 1 and ½ hour of weekly homework and assignments set by the tutor.

What you can do next
Upon successful completion of this course and with negotiation with the tutor, learners could progress onto additional progression units or functional skills programmes in English. Learners have to show commitment, complete homework and assignments as set by the tutor, and attend regularly in order to progress.
At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency, who expect that learners who enrol on a course leading to a qualification will take that qualification at the College. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
