Course description

Max. 1 teen (11+) per adult. Prepare a variety of desserts, biscuits and cakes and understand the basic skills of cake decoration. PLEASE NOTE: The adult whose enrolment details we have MUST be the adult who attends with the child(ren) each and every session of the course.

What the course will cover

By the end of the session adults and children will have prepared a variety of dishes, tasted and evaluated them, recognised how to work safely in the kitchen and used a range of culinary skills.

Teaching and learning activities

Tutor demonstration, one to one, class discussions.

What you will be able to do by the end of the course (Course objectives)

Support your teenager in: 1. Working safely in the kitchen. 2. Preparing, discussing and evaluating a variety of dishes. 3. Discussing alternatives to sweets and crisps and their benefits. 4. Preparing and piping butter icing onto cupcakes. 5. Work with sugar paste to cover and decorate cupcakes. 6. Creating simple sugar decoration for the cupcakes.

Examination or qualification (if applicable) including costs. The course fee usually includes examination costs: registration with the exam board, certification and administration fees. If the fees are not included, the brochure will tell you this.

What you need to bring to the first class

1. Apron. 2. Dishcloth. 3. Tea-towel. 4. Plastic container with a lid.

Books, materials and equipment you need for the course (including additional costs, specialist stockists, etc.) Note: your tutor may recommend additional items during the course.

Students must wear an apron, and suitable footwear, flat closed shoes to comply with the Learning Centre health and safety policy; tea towel and dish cloth.

Additional information - General

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete a Student Learning Record (SLR) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and SLR.
