Course description

Max. 1 teen (7+) per adult. This is a course designed for parents, carers and grandparents and their teenager to work in a 1-1 situation. It covers how to prepare and cook a variety of fun dishes. Each week you will sample and evaluate different dishes prepared by yourselves and other families. Each family will cook something different and then the prepared dishes will be shared and eaten as a group at the end of the session. The majority of recipes prepared will be savoury. All recipes will be published on the VLE ( paper copies can be supplied upon request) PLEASE NOTE: The adult whose enrolment details we have MUST be the adult who attends with the child(ren) each and every session of the course.

What you will learn

By the end of the session you will have prepared a variety of dishes, tasted and evaluated them, recognised how to work safely in the kitchen, and used a variety of culinary skills.

This is a highly interactive course that involves following instructions, preparation of dishes and discussion.

How you will be assessed on this course

Support your child in: 1. Working safely in the kitchen. 2. Preparing, discussing and evaluating a variety of dishes. 3. Recognising the importance of healthy eating. 4. Reading and understanding food labels and ingredient lists. 5. Discussing different breads. 6. Discussing our use of seasonal foods.

All other materials will be provided apart from those listed below.

What you need to bring to the first class

1. Apron. 2. Dishcloth. 3. Tea-towel. 4. Plastic container with a lid.

Additional information

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and ILP.
