Equality & Diversity

The College is committed to promoting and developing equality in all areas of its work. This involves embedding equality and diversity issues into every aspect of the College’s activities. We believe that all staff and learners should be treated as the individuals they are, with different needs regardless of age, disability, gender and gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnerships, pregnancy, maternity, race, religious belief and sexual orientation. All persons attending or working for the College should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential, having equal access and choice.

  • Equality and Diversity is about taking steps to ensure that this vision becomes a reality. We will aim to achieve this by taking the following steps:
  • Embracing a positive attitude towards the promotion of equality and diversity
  • We will strive to create a safe and inclusive environment, where discrimination, harassment or bullying in any form is not acceptable.
  • We will take steps to ensure that the diverse needs of individuals are catered for.
  • We will aim to reflect diversity within the learner and staff numbers.
  • We welcome and recognise that the College must comply with relevant statutory provision.
  • Our Equality and Diversity committee will regularly monitor our performance.


The Equality Act 2010 brought together existing equality laws and made them stronger. From 2011 there is also a Public Sector Equality Duty which covers the protected target groups. It means that public bodies, such as government department, councils, hospitals and schools have a statutory duty to protect people from discrimination and unfair treatment.
