Are you considering a career in garden design or a keen amateur gardener who would like to learn about effective planting schemes or wish to re-design your garden? Learn about the principles of garden design, measuring the site, analysing the existing garden, working to a client brief, drawing a plan and layout of the garden, an overview of garden styles, designing with plants, hard landscaping in the garden, small garden and planting design projects.
Identify by botanical and Latin name, different flowering shrubs, perennials and bulbs for the summer and autumn. Learn about containers and hanging baskets, using correct techniques and appropriate aftercare so your display lasts longer. Material costs are included in the fee.
Identify characteristics of trees, shrubs, perennials, climbers, grasses and bulbs. Learn about plant roots, stems, leaves, flowers, growth habits, selecting the right plant for the right place and how to ensure an ideal environment for healthy plants.
Want to know how to prune your trees and shrubs correctly? Find out about different pruning methods, suitable times to prune and special techniques to prune trees, shrubs, roses, climbers and fruit trees in your garden. Explore key maintenance and after care tips for pruned plants for keeping them healthy and productive for longer.
Our Horticulture and Floristry courses offer a diverse range of creative opportunities, from your first steps towards a career in these flourishing industries to more advanced learning or for more leisurely pursuits.
Are you inspired by flowers? Do you have a passion for design and creativity? There is plenty of scope to develop skills on our courses either for personal interest or for work, by learning to create stunning displays and arrangements in a relaxed and friendly place. Whether you are a complete novice, have done some flower arranging or are more experienced and are looking for specialist knowledge to keep up to date with new trends there is something for everyone.
We offer the Floristry Level 2 Certificate with City & Guilds – from student to work ready in one year – it could fit around existing commitments. If you are new to formal learning try one of our Information taster days.

Sympathy, Wedding, Dramatic and Gift Designs, try a less formal way of learning, many of our students often go on to take the Level 2 Certificate or upskill and gain skills for work.
Create your own bridal/bridesmaid hand-tied bouquets, table decorations and button holes with flowers of the season – a complete start to finish working with fresh and current trends. We offer short courses as well as one day workshops. Learn all the skills you need to prepare for that perfect day.
The College is pleased to offer the nationally recognised RHS qualifications, these start again in Autumn 2018.
