Legislation
The Equality Act 2010 provides a legal framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all. From 2011 there is also a Public Sector Equality Duty which covers the protected target groups. It means that public bodies, such as government department, councils, hospitals and schools have a statutory duty to protect people from discrimination and unfair treatment.
Equality and Diversity is about taking steps to ensure that this vision becomes a reality. We will aim to achieve this by taking the following steps:

- Embracing a positive attitude towards the promotion of equality and diversity
- We will strive to create a safe and inclusive environment, where discrimination, harassment or bullying in any form is not acceptable
- We will take steps to ensure that the diverse needs of individuals are catered for
- We will aim to reflect diversity within the learner and staff numbers
- We welcome and recognise that the College must comply with relevant statutory provision
- Our Equality and Diversity committee will regularly monitor our performance
