​What are essential skills? They are the skills you need for everyday life and work. They include digital skills, literacy, English, numeracy and maths skills. Learning Essential Skills are important and can be life changing. Improve your confidence and wellbeing, learn something new or build on your expertise, and take your skills to the next level with the help of our experienced and friendly tutors.  
 
Our courses will help you to improve your reading, writing, speaking, listening, working with numbers, using computers and technology. 
 
You will be able to learn at your own pace, practise how to use the skills you learn in everyday situations, and gain qualifications that employers will recognise.

DIGITAL SKILLS
​​​Having good digital skills is essential to access services, look for jobs, get into employment, progress in the workplace and for daily life today. Our digital skills courses will equip you for the digital world at home, for work and study. You will develop your skills and be able gain a E3 or level 1 qualification in essential digital skills.
EnglisH
Many adults feel quite anxious about starting an English course. Because of this, we offer a variety of ways of learning and aim to build your confidence and English skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. 
 
Our courses can help you gain the skills required for employment or for continuing professional development. From shorter courses to industry recognised qualifications there are many options to help you up-skill, get into work and support your career goals. 
 
What do we offer? 
  • Entry levels to Level 2 - Functional Skills: courses for adults that cover basic skills & linking to real-life English. 
  • Level 2 - GCSE: this will help you gain a place on a university course and improve your job prospects. 
  • Level 3 - English for literacy and language teaching: an exciting new addition this year. It is a Level 3 English Language course and a stepping stone in your teaching career. 
Non-accredited courses such as, Literacy: English language skills for beginners, Skills building, Academic writing, Creative writing, Writing for Work, Report writing, Preparation for GCSE are just some courses to help elevate and support you in your current position or prepare you for higher education. ​​
ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)
Our ESOL courses from Pre-Entry to Level 2 will support you to gain English language skills you need to live and work in the UK and feel a part of your local community.

If you are settling or living in England, your first language is not English and you want to improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing then these courses are for you. All our courses cover grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills development.

Our Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing courses lead to a nationally recognised qualification. We offer Skills building courses, which prepare you for joining a course leading to a qualification if you are in-between levels, or help you to improve certain skills.

In addition, you can join Maths and ICT courses specifically aimed for ESOL learners or our online Workshops which will help you to develop communication skills and improve grammar.

All ESOL course fees depend on the eligibility criteria.

Getting on the right ESOL level
  • ESOL Pre-Entry: You cannot speak English, or you can speak a little English but cannot read or write in English very well.
  • ESOL Entry 1: You can understand some English and can give a limited basic information verbally and in writing.
  • ESOL Entry 2: You can speak and write basic everyday English.
  • ESOL Entry 3: You have a wider range of vocabulary, feeling comfortable in many situations and use English structures with some accuracy and fluency.
  • ESOL Level 1: You can communicate effectively and fluently in most everyday situations; you are able to take part in discussions and write with greater accuracy.
  • ESOL Level 2: Your spoken and written language are like that of a native speaker, but you may still struggle with sounding like a native speaker and effectively applying some grammar aspects, colloquial phrases and specialist vocabulary needed at work.
MATHS
​Are you confident about learning maths? Even if you feel anxious about starting a maths course don’t worry, we offer a variety of ways of learning and aim to build your confidence and maths skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Our courses can help you gain the skills required for employment or for continuing professional development. From short introductory courses to industry recognised qualifications there are many options to help you up-skill, get into work and support your career goals.

What do we offer?
  • Entry level - Numeracy: maths skills for beginners
  • Entry levels to Level 2 - Functional Skills: courses for adults that cover basic skills & linking to real-life maths
  • Level 2 - GCSE: this will help you gain a place on a university course and improve your job prospects.​
  • Level 3 - Core Maths: a Level 3 qualification (similar to AS level) covering useful skills such as financial maths, statistics, spreadsheets and critical analysis.
Multiply
​Multiply is a new FREE government-funded programme to help adults across the UK improve their numeracy skills.

If you’re aged 19+ and do not already have a GCSE at grade C (or equivalent) in maths, Multiply is available to you.

Whether you’re looking to boost your number skills to progress at work or to help with daily tasks, Multiply will help you:
  • Manage your money
  • Prepare for progression at work
  • Support your child with their home learning
  • Progress to further study or training

​LANGUAGES
​​Learning a new language can be rewarding and can open the door to many new and exciting possibilities, such as travel, discovering new cultures, embarking on a career as an interpreter or translator to name a few.

Our courses, taught by experienced and qualified tutors in a friendly learning environment, will not only help you to communicate in your chosen language, but will also give you an insight into the country and its culture. We offer FCSE courses that will help you to prepare for GCSE French and Spanish if that is what you wish to do next.

​GCSE English

​Do you already have a good grasp of English but need to improve your knowledge of English to help you with your current job, future job or further studies?

Do you have a genuine interest in exploring the way language is used?

Do you have an interest in studying 19th to 21st century texts?

If ‘Yes’, GCSE English would be the right course for you.

​Functional Skills English

​Is your first language English or have you already achieved ESOL Level 1 qualifications?

Do you need to improve your everyday English?

Do you want to get better at reading newspaper articles, writing letters/e-mails and speaking more confidently?

If ‘Yes’, Functional Skills English (Entry Level to Level 2/GCSE equivalent) would be the right course for you.

English for Speakers of other languages (ESOL)

​Are you a non-native English speaker?

Do you need to improve your English to help you settle into the community and understand the culture?

Do you want to be able to read, write speak and listen with more confidence?

Do you want to learn essential language skills to properly communicate in English?

If ‘Yes’, ESOL (Pre-Entry to Level 2) would be the right course for you.
